A complete vegan Thanksgiving dinner, all gluten free, allergy free and no refined sugars. We developed these recipes for Canadian Thanksgiving and are putting them all in one place for US Thanksgiving. Easy to find and easier to prepare.
A recipe wrap-up that solves the food allergies and holiday meal plans at the same time.
What’s on the menu:
Make ahead items you may need:
- Caraway Flax Bread, Gf, Vegan (a hearty paired bread to make stuffing with)
- Lots of Vegetable Stock, recipe link here

Starting with the items that need to be made ahead of time, you can prepare many of these a day in advance, in fact some of them will taste better that way! Your gluten free and vegan Thanksgiving dinner will need quite a bit of vegetable stock. We use the recipes from our sister blog, Cookin’ It Easy. Also, make the Caraway Flax bread recipe the day before and make crutons for the stuffing. Of course, you can skip this step if you have left over bread you plan to use. Be sure that it is hearty. Gluten free bread from stores tends to be too light for a stuffing recipe, it may turn to soup, when wet and not bake properly.
Recipes that will taste better if made a day ahead, Vegan Cranberry Braised Jackfruit. This recipe is the gluten free and vegan Thanksgiving dinner main dish. It is a stew type of recipe and all stews taste better after having ‘stewed’ in the fridge for a day. This recipe is intended to be liquid enough that you have ‘gravy’ for mixing in with stuffing. Deep-dish pumpkin pie will also be better the second day. Pumpkin pie is hard to resist but I believe in you! Place that pie covered in the fridge and enjoy it after it has had plenty of time to cool and the flavours to marry.
Make on the day…Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts are best fresh and hot. You can prep them, blanche and ice shock them ahead of time, but finish them in the oven. Make your Apple & Onion stuffing that day, as well. It will take some time to bake but its lovely when fresh and a gluten free and vegan Thanksgiving dinner would be remiss without stuffing. You will be reheating the Cranberry braised jackfruit, and will still have plenty of time to visit and plenty of room in your oven. Lastly, Cranberry Sauce takes 15 minutes to prepare, give yourself a little more time so i has time to cool and you aren’t stressed about making all the food.
I have left out potatoes or another starch in this gluten free and vegan Thanksgiving dinner wrap up. I can’t have potatoes, so we leave them out. Periodically, we do roasted root vegetables, we’ve been playing with mashed turnips, but if you want potatoes too, make them!
Some folks have a bread tradition at family meals. We have a lovely gluten free French Baguette recipe that will work nicely. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy!
